Berlin Syndrome – Most anticipated film to hit India

Berlin Syndrome

Berlin Syndrome

Psychological thriller Berlin Syndrome, from acclaimed Australian writer-director Cate Shortland, starring Teresa Palmer and Max Riemelt, is set to hit the Indian theaters on July 28 and we can hardly wait!

Berlin Syndrome is the story of a young woman, who in her quest to reinvent herself as an artist, travels to Berlin where she encounters Andi, a charming high school teacher – she is enraptured and soon entrapped.

Based on Melanie Joosten’s book of the same name, Shortland’s film was adapted for screens by Shaun Grant, who also co-wrote Justin Kurzel’s Snowtown.

Berlin Syndrome – Reviews

Receiving rave reviews at its world premiere at Sundance Film festival and critics across Australia and North America, Berlin Syndrome is now ready to be revealed to Indian audience.

Talking about the India release, distributor, producer and director Ashwani Sharma, Impact Films, said in a statement:

Berlin Syndrome is from the festival circuit. It is a very hard hitting film which lingered on my mind the first time I watched it. The experience of going solo to a new city and then encountering something like this, I think it is very relatable for the Indian audience. Since Indians are traveling across borders, they should be aware. It could happen to anyone. While we have western blockbusters and studio-led films, indie too is creating its space gradually.

The title of the film is inspired by the psychological term Stockholm Syndrome, a condition that causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a survival strategy during captivity. Berlin Syndrome is an exploration into the dynamics between two individuals – one who seeks love and other who seeks control. It delves into themes of passion, sex, power, violence, possession and deception.

The New York Times dubbed Shortland as a talent to watch while the critic at The Guardian was left in cold sweat by the end. The performance of all actors as well as the production is phenomenal. The movie will have you at the edge of your seat at all times!

Definitely a must watch!
