Take The Family To Grand Cayman For The Ultimate Beach Adventure

The Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory, encompasses 3 islands in the western Caribbean Sea. Grand Cayman, the largest island, is known for its beach resorts and varied scuba diving and snorkelling sites. Cayman Brac is a popular launch point for deep-sea fishing excursions. Little Cayman, the smallest island, is home to diverse wildlife, from endangered iguanas to seabirds such as red-footed boobies.

The island has multiple water activities and boat options, including diving, snorkeling, sailing, paddle boarding, or the always popular sunset cruise. We tried almost all of the above and snorkeling turned out to be my family’s favorite activity. (We went two days in a row). One of the best snorkel tours was arranged by Red Sail Sports, which stopped at the USS Kittiwake, a 250 sunken submarine that is a blast to explore. Our second stop was a nearby reef, where we floated among tons of colorful fish and then happily sailed back drinking mocktails.

The Sand

There is no shame in admitting that one of the primary reasons I chose Grand Cayman is because I am a beach bum. Seven Mile Beach is one of the Caribbean’s most fabulous beaches. Beach lovers will appreciate the miles of perfect sand (goodbye crowds), crystal clear waters (grab your snorkel gear), and lots of pine and palm trees (for when you need some shade). We spent hours lounging, walking along the shore and playing football.

Stingray City

While swimming with dolphins is always fun, swimming with stingrays is truly unique. This is the place to get up close to these cool aquatic creatures. While the stingray may not be the cutest animal, they somehow managed to start a rumor that if you kiss them, you wind up with seven years of good luck. (I am currently expecting fourteen years of bliss). Traveling by sailboat or catamaran adds to the fun and local guides with help you hold one or pet one.
