Steam it away

Why: Bacteria and germs multiply because of the mucus stuck in nose, throat, or chest. Inhale steam to loosen mucus and clear your airways and decongest!

How to: Fill a bowl with water and bring to boil. Turn off the heat and place it on a table. Cover your head with a towel and lean over the bowl to inhale the steam.

Give garlic a try

Why: garlic contains sulphur and hundreds of other active ingredients. Apart from being antibacterial and antiviral. It’s also an expectorant that helps you cough up phlegm.

How to: have 4-5 cloves daily. However, if you do not like its taste, you can add the crushed cloves to freshly prepared soup or cheese!

Reach for some ginger!

Why: it is warming and helps to remove toxins from the body. Ginger can soothe the pain experience during swallowing and irritation of a sore throat.

How to: grate some fresh ginger root (1 Tbsp.) and add to a 1 cup of boiling water. Turn off the heat and cover the pan to let the juices mix with water. After 10 minutes, strain the tea and consume hot!

 Prepare a Honey and Lemon concoction

Why: The thickness of honey helps coat and soothe an irritated throat.  Lemon stimulates the salivary glands, pulling fluid into the mouth and making it easier to swallow.

How to: add a teaspoon of honey to warm water. Squeeze some lemon juice into it and consume.

Caution: do not heat honey!

 

# REMEDY 6

Gargle

Why: The high concentration of salt help to draw liquid from the throat. Gargling with salt water simply creates a dehydrated environment that bacteria cannot flourish in.

How to: add a teaspoon of salt to warm water. Gargle using this at least 5 times a day.
